One Last Thing

Here are the Vellamo Socks (free pattern is HERE) - this was a very old UFO I recently found. They're knit toe-up with an afterthought heel. I used a vintage yarn, Brunswick Nylamb, which has a high nylon count. The yarn feels vaguely like acrylic but I've always kept my Nylamb stash because the socks wear like iron. In the photo the socks are still wet from blocking but I was in a hurry to add something to my 2011 project totals.

In 2011 I knit: 28 pairs of socks, 1 Christmas stocking, a bed for Bubbles, 1 pair of men's gloves, 1 pair of fingerless mitts, 1 turkey, two hats, and a headband for a total of 36 projects.

My favorite project for the year was by far the Snow Under Cedars Socks by Leslie Comstock. I enjoyed knitting them so much I plan to knit all her patterns.

My 2012 Knitting Resolutions:

1. Knit more challenging projects - I did too many boring and easy things this year. I am going to start Cookie A.'s Twisted Flower socks tomorrow to get the ball rolling.

2. Knit more stashbuster projects so my stash will be smaller in size by 2013. I think I'll try to keep one complex project and one stashbuster project on the needles at all times.

3. Complete the 26 Pair Plunge. It started last summer July and I'm already halfway done to knitting 26 pairs of socks by the deadline next summer.

4. Participate in Sock Madness this year. It is a speed knitting competition that takes place in March. I watched it last year and I have no delusions I can get to the final rounds (for instance, one Norwegian knitter last year knit a pair of socks in FOUR HOURS!) but I want to challenge myself and all the sock patterns designed for the competition are really great.

5. Knit an actual sweater! This seems more likely if we manage to return to Colorado where sweaters will make more sense.

6. Be MUCH more productive. I've kept records of knitting projects before and in 2003 for instance, I knit 4 Sweaters & Vests,  9 Pairs of Mittens, 6 Pairs of Socks & Slippers, 6 Scarves, 11 Hats & Headbands, 1 Pair of Gloves, and 2 Knitted Toys. Because 2 of those sweaters were Dale of Norway, one sweater was an Alice Starmore design, and the gloves were Sanquhar gloves on tiny 000 dpns, I estimate that year I was about 3 times as productive as I was this year. So I need to stop slacking off.

Happy New Year to all! Thanks so much for reading my blog and for giving me a reason to take more photos of Bubbles.

Those Snow Under Cedars Socks are gorgeous! I've seen them before, but still...they are amazing. You were pretty productive this year! I'm afraid to count up my FO's, so I think I'll just remain in ignorant bliss. Happy New Year!

Hi Nanette, Happy New Year to you! I love your blog. Don't have much time to knit right now, but I can't stop buying sock yarn or reading Knitting in Color. All other knitting blogs have fallen off my list. Thank you! You are a fabulous knitter.

I am knitting Sanquhar gloves on 1.5mm needles right now.
Many years ago I found your blog and was truly inspired by the colourwork knitting. I am now an accomplished colourwork knitter and have knit many of the patterns I found on your blog.
Thank you for the inspiration Nanette and Happy New Year!!

Don't be too hard on yourself! There are as many stitches in a pair of socks as in an adult sweater using worsted weight yarn.

I don't make new years resolution's anymore, but there are some things I would like to do this new year:

1. make some socks
2. make a sweater
3. make a ruffle scarf
4. make a skirt suit

That's all I can think of for now.
