Stranded Knitting from Sundance Catalog
Has anyone else noticed more stranded knitted items in holiday catalogs this year? A while back when it suddenly became difficult to find stranded knitting patterns I wrote to an editor of a print knitting magazine and she emailed back that they weren't including as much stranded patterns because colorwork wasn't as popular on the runways and in the stores. Dare I hope that the increase in stranded patterns in catalogs means color knitting will finally become popular again???

I adore this last sweater/coat! If only I lived in a colder climate!

Thank goodness stranded knitting is back! It is such fun to do.
I love the coat, too! It would be fun to knit.
I'm on my second pair of Embudito mittens. I was always very whiny and weepy when I was doing stranded knitting on a whole mitten/sock. Now I discovered doing only the cuff satisfys my want of colorwork, and is still managable. I'm going to knit more of these mittens, just changing the colorwork so it will not get boring. :o) The coat looks great!
I love that sweater coat too, and I live in a cold (at times) climate. Don't tempt me!
Oh! I love the snowflakes on the soles! Hooked me in an instant.
Just looking at current projects by on line knitters, I think stranded is becoming more popular. I'm not sure whether this is a reflection of runway trends or vice-versa. Either way, I expect you are right and we will see more patterns.
I like the way the pattern appears more blended in that coat. Obvious horizontal stripes are often not flattering in a sweater. That pattern seems to avoid an obvious stripey look. However, I can't figure out how. More subtle color changes with a dominant foreground pattern, maybe?
Wow, what fantastic patterns! I luv them all.
Hello!
I wonder what Stranded knitting are? Have never heard about it! Love to knit with many colors :)
Have you seen the wonderful stranded knit items in the Holdiay 2009 National Geographic catalog? I want the patterns! ha!! The teal/black jacket is wonderful!!
Last year I copied a pair of mittens from the Sundance Catalog - just used the same color scheme and created my own!! I love the stuff from them - too bad it's so expensive!
You mentioned in a previous post a Japanese hat book you were interested in. I have purchased from Kinokuniya bookstore on the west coast and don't remember that the shipping was prohibitive. I needed the ISBN number and then had look it up and select which store had it. It has been over a year since I ordered, but they were quick and I felt more comfortable ordering from there then one of the Japanese bookstores. I think they were cheaper than Needlearts in some cases. I would order from them again, but there are some many good looking books and so far I have used them as adult picture books. Good luck!
I love the slippers
I think it would be a gas to knit Chery! I'd still never get to wear it here though.
JellyDonut, if I were you I'd wait until it goes on sale. I think most places will have sales before Christmas.

Monika, I am glad you are enjoying the Embudito mittens! Well at least the part without stranding! :)
Rachel, I do think it is finally back! I will have to work harder to collect yarn and patterns in case it goes out of style for several years again.
Jody, I agree - I love them all!
Dr. Leonesse, I love those snowflakes as well. It does look there would be some long floats if you knit those though.
Luni it does look some subtle colorwork changes to make it less stripey.
Bossa, stranded knitting is knitting with many colors! The strands are the floats of unused yarn across the back of the knitting.
No Debbie - I have to go check out the National Geo catalog ASAP!
That's really cool JulieLoves2Knit! I adore their jewelry so I guess I probably can't reproduce it like you did.
Tami - I like those too! Plus I can really use a good pair of slippers.
Thanks Sherilan - I'll check it out. The shipping is pretty high at the NeedleArts bookstore so it is good to hear of other options.
